I have noticed a change in the mood in the Middle East.
Um...maybe less friendly is the only way I can explain it well.
People not meeting my eye, not the ususal HELLOs and smiles
from the locals. AM I THE ENEMY.
Is is time to leave ?

In Qatar it's a bit mixed. some students say that it's a good thing they were killed, others think the opposite |

Gee, I thought things have gotten more relaxed. Really.
I have also noticed security checks here in Jeddah have been stood down. That is probably in response to the recent arrests however. |

In the UAE, none of the recent events have made much difference. I know Americans have started saying they're Canadian since the Afghan conflict began just to be on the safe side. Personally, I noticed a bit of a difference after that conflict began, but not much difference since. The taxi drivers here are mostly Afghani so that explains that noticable change of sentiment (especially, if you rode taxis Luckily, the Iraq conflict hasn't stirred up too much here. As far as i'm concerned, I'm here to stay, despite some people's gloomy predictions! |
