Has German law employment law changed?
It used to be the case that if you only work for one company in Germany you cannot be "Freelance" and therefore have to be fully employed.
Also, an E111 from the UK, for example, will not cover you if you "live" in Germany, so therefore you have to pay the "Krankenkasse"
Does anybody know if this has changed? |

As far as health insurance in Germany, I can help you out. On 1 April 2007 the German government implemented a new law. If you work and pay your tax in Germany (determined by the rules of residency) you are obligated to have a German Healthcare provider. The German system has 2 basic options, Private and State. You must earn over 4000 Euros per month to qualify for Private insurance. State insurance is about (and this varies by company) 12.8% of your Gross earnings monthly. TK-online.de is a state company that claims to have info in English, but they really don't. Check it out, you'll see what I mean. Also, if you work in Germany and are obligated to have health insurance from a German company, get it in the first 3 months, otherwise neither the private or state companies will insure you without a medical examination and a dental exam prior to insuring you, and then they reserve the right to refuse certain coverage. |
