I have read many posts about this and I agree. It would be great to have a good search tool. I'm not a techie but is this so hard to achieve? (come on kprrok!)
Perhaps if we get 1000s of comments on this thread it would act like a kind of petition. I understand the frustration of Dave veterans who see threads coming up from newbies (like this one) which they've commented on before with their expertise. It must be irritating.
Let's get a critical mass! |

There was already a thread about this. Use the search function. |

I do this for most sites as Google is usually far better.
Go to google.
Click on advanced search.
Type in what you want to find on the site.
Tab down a few boxes and there is a "site" box.
Type in eslcafe.com.
If you only want to search korean forums, type in eslcafe.com/korea.
Works great for just about any site.
OR
From the main google page you can also type (for example):
"wall street" site:eslcafe.com/korea
It works the same either way.
Like I said, I use this on many sites, not just for eslcafe.com |

Pretty cool, thanks for the link. Although it does give results for all of Dave's forum. It would be cool to have a google search limited to the Korean forums. |

You can get results from only the korea forum. See my post earlier on how to do it from google. |

Many posters on this thread have already addressed the search engine question. The answer is Google. It works on all sites everywhere. No customization required. If you just want to search the Korea forums, then just type in your search term -- I used "Obama" in the example below -- followed by the specific site (example shown below). Then you will see all the references to that search term in the Korea forum (1270 for "Obama").
Just cut and paste this into the Google search engine to see those 1270 results.
Obama site:http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea
I (and probably many others) have posted the solution to this frequent complaint several times on this forum, but, of course, like most all such postings it drops out of site. If the mods would make a sticky for this search engine question, it would probably help.
Cheers. |

You're absolutely right. That is a good solution, with no custom search engine required.
It's a Catch-22: the information about how to search the site well is continually lost because those who need it don't know how to search the site well. |

Or replace that ugly-ass Dave's banner at the top with a space for the Google search field... |

I think there's a good reason why the search function on Dave's doesn't work. |
