Hello one and all,
The time has come when I must depart from this beautiful beautiful land, Let me all hear you go arhhhhhh.
As I'm leaving earlier than planned my school needs 2 teachers to cover the last three weeks of term.
The school and students are really nice and you get a beautiful apartment thrown in. There's two positions available, the hours are from 4-8 in the afternoons Mon-Fri, (Yes a long lie ins in the mornings)
If you are interested or want more infomation about three weeks work from the 15th of June PM me.

Pete

In answer to the first,
Yep I'm damn good, sadly it's at pool rather then this teaching english malarky!
They need two teachers in order to clean up the mess I'm leaving behind Laughing

And the second,
I'm heading back over the pond to old blighty. Where after a brief period of doing nothing but eating pie, baked beans and drinking bitter I'm getting married to the poor lass whose missfortune it is to be my girlfriend and not yet sober enough to realise what she's doing.
After that I'm returning to Spain for a year or so.

All the best...

And are you going anywhere near GDL in the next few months Loz?
Maybe we will get that bear.

Pete

If there are bears there, they are clearly an endangered species, so the idea of going hunting for one seems very incorrect....Better idea would be to get that tlacuache...for you inveterate hunters.

Hi all,

Has anybody got any info for me about teaching in Comitan? Are there any more language schools apart from Culturalia and Four Arrows? Has anyone worked for one of them? What's it like? How do I go about getting a job there? Am I likely to get something if I just walk in with my resume?
Any info on teaching in San Cristobal de las Casas? Or even Guatemala? School names, e-mail addresses, contacts, tips, any info would be great! I am a qualified and experienced TEFL teacher from Dublin, Ireland and I've worked in Thailand, Cambodia and Ecuador before.[/b]

Lots of work in Guatemala, low pay, no work visa, but no problems about that. Turn up any place with a copy of your degree and be prepared to leave the country every time your visa expires.

As you probably won't be able to get a work visa without marrying a Guatemalan or having Guatemalan offspring you probably won't get a job online before you go.

Mexico is different, but I don't know about Chiapas.

Thanks Mike!

Are you in Guatemala? What's a good place to be in Guatemala for work? Would it have to be Guatemala City?

Cheers,

Myriam

No, I'm not there now, I am currently in Korea making some money to spend on my family in Guatemala.

You wouldn't have to work in Guatemala City, and would probably be better off elsewhere. The better paid jobs are in Guatemala City, but the cost of lving is a bit higher too. It's also a pretty violent place.

You should be able to find work easily enough in most places, if you are prepared to stay for a complete school year (Jan-Oct) most any private school, and there are many, would be happy to get a native speaker teacher.

Pay will be low, but enough for you to survive on. There should be plenty of opportunity to make extra on the side. Even in the touristy areas there may be work available. Your jobhunting will be much easier if you can get by in Spanish.

Thanks Mike! Hope things are going well for you in Korea, I hear the pay is very good..
If I go to Guatemala, I may only stay for 6 months. Does that limit my chances of finding work? My Spanish is little but I just about get by.. Would you think it would take me long to find something if anything at all? Like you, I can't really afford to hang around for to long...
Is my teaching inevetably going to involve teaching kids? I have only experience with teaching adults and would prefer that too.
Cheers,

Myriam

I'm pretty sure you could find six months work at an Eglish academy, you will probably teach mainly middle and high school kids or adults if you are lucky. Probably not full time, but enough to keep you in tacos and comida corridas. I would not bother looking in Antigua or Amatitlan, as there are already plenty of short and medium (and long) term foreigners there, if you are interested in Xela (Quetzaltenango) there were quite a few schools there last time I looked.

Lots of probablys, sorry.
