What can I say...
in the words of Krusty the Clown "They drove a dump truck full of money up to me, I'M NOT MADE OF STONE!!!!"
but seriously, I'm thinking of taking a position with them in January...
Someone please be the voice of reason or at least the devil's advocate...
Let's try to have a serious discussion, no sarcasm or snide remarks please
honest opinions and facts only, |

Do you like Mickey and Minnie and The Little Mermaid?
Can you stand facing a class wearing a hat with two big black ears on it?
If the money is right, and the contract not wrong, why not do it?
Surely teaching from primers full of "See Mickey run, Run Mickey, Run." is no worse than using primers with "See Spot Run, Run Spot, Run!" |

Probably a large suit in the style of a world famous cartoon character on promo days. I hear that the oversized head has large eyes to see through but can be quite uncomfortable to wear indoors or during hot weather. |

I currently workin a Disney English school in the venings and weekends.
So here is my frank and honest opinion.
The students are all young pobably up to the age of ten / eleven years.
Class sizes are small by chinese standards, my biggesthas 12 students.
The use of disney film is a fun way for the students to relate to the English grammerand it brings back happy memories for the teacher...hehe
On the downside, they only teach a few phrases.... eg. look at the starts, what beautiful stars and donald wants to sleep donald doesn't want to sleep. Each unit lasts about six weeks, so you are repeating the same lesson for six weeks.
The students do learn because of the repetition, but can they relate it to everyday life?? As a teacher, you have to use the disney characters to branch over to life in general.
Personally i do get frustrated, because i am sure I could teach them a lot more in six weeks than the handful of sentences they learn from each unit.
The other good point though is that Disney play a lot of games in the lessons so it can be fun.
If I was doing it every day as my main job, I think i would crack up, but as an extra earner, I quite like it.
I hope this helps.

No degreed teacher should ever bother working for training centres such as Disney English, Aston English or English First. There are plenty of threads around on various internet sites that detail the constant attack teachers must put up with on their pay and conditions of employment at these institutions. They are all dysfunctional and systemically corrupt which is a salient feature of education in China generally. If you believe otherwise, you are either naive or deluded.
These businesses only exist to make as much money as possible and do not care for the quality of the teaching nor contents that are taught.
You have been warned yet again! |

It's pretty basic. The interviewer asks you questions about your previous experiences and asks questions to see if you would fit well into the "Disney" experience. Have your questions ready. If you don't receive a job offer by the end of the interview, something went wrong.
Everyone says it's a bad place to work, but it's hard to find good jobs in China if you're not there. |

This is also quite true on both parts. Let Disney pay to get you over here. If you hate it, then move on. |

Doesn't work that way in China.
I have never known a school here to pay to get you over here, or to even reimburse your airfare upon arrival.
Also, your visa is dependent upon the school, so it is not so easy to just move on. |

Perhaps I am wrong, but I don't believe anyone was advocating he pull a runner. He can fulfill his contract or find a (legit) way out if he is unhappy there. I think most of us would agree it is easier to find a job once in China.
Side note: Some foreigners I know are not on legal work visas. Sometimes I envy their ability to just give a school the finger and walk away....and have another job before night falls. |

Disney happens to be a company that pays airfare and books flights over up front.
Right, I was absolutely not advocating a runner. As mentioned, one could stick it out for the duration of the contract while networking for a different job, or could work the notice period in the contract and get an LOR. |

Opiate, with all due respect,
encouraging people to work illegally is kind of irresponsible, no?
What if someone read your post, thought it ok to work illegally, then faced unpaid wages, or even fines or deportation? |

Not an issue for you? |
Absolutely not an issue for me. We are all responsible for the choices we make. Also, I do not see how I was encouraging anything. |
