|
|
I'm currently in Istanbul staying with friends and sending my CV to k12 schools for possible employment as an ESL teacher .
I have not received any replies and was wondering what the inside info is.
Ive had one offer of $2300 per month plus %50 tuition discount for my daughter. No housing. I turned it down.
I have an ELT degree and 1 year experience in the U.K.
I have met some people who have degrees in different subjects or don't have any formal qualifications and they have better jobs than my offer. Others were newly qualified teachers(with or without English degrees and also have good deals.
Is this about networking? Should I accept the next low offer I get despite the fact that my wage will only be covering my daughters tuition, housing and expenses? I was hoping for $2000-$2500 plus housing and tuition discount.
Any advice on which schools are looking for primary?middle/high school teachers. |

$2300 is about 4100 Lira which is a very good amount of money esp when they are offering half off tuition for your daughter. Even if you found a place for about 600-700 a month, you would be completely fine. At least in my opinion |

Tuition is $18,000 for the year.
That's $750 per month. It leaves me with $1550 per month. The area is out of Istanbul and quite expensive. I have searched and found decent 2 bedroom flats for around 1,200tl.
The rest would go on utilities, food etc.
My other option would be to live further out and commute- then I would have to spend money on transport. |

Ah okay, you hadn't specified the tuition in your original post so I wasn't too sure how much it was. I see your point now |
