Hi all
I,m looking for some information on New Oriental.
I,ve been offered a position in Fu Zhou and would like some info from someone who has worked for them. Fu Zhou or other cities is fine. General impressions. I,ve spoken to the Teacher i,m replacing but he's leaving before contract completion so i,d like someone else' opinion too.
Thanks all Very Happy

If you were more specific about what you wanted to know, then I could tell you. I'm working for them in Guangzhou.

I work part time at Xin Dong Fang. They always pay on time. I once had a short "paycheck" and they fixed it within two days. I almost always have the advanced English classes so I ignore the book, but for lower levels the book is probably a good base. They farmed me out twice but both were good experiences and they reimbursed me for taxi fare, but I had to keep the receipts. The Chinese teachers here are great. If I didn't like it I would quit; it's easy to find another part-time gig.

You don't need to wonder if they can get you a residence permit, which is nice. Classes run three hours with a ten minute break after an hour and a half. The breaks between classes last half an hour to 50 minutes so on the weekends you're running. Test based classes (SAT, GRE, etc.) may have a different schedule. Heck I might only work there after my uni gig is done.

I've worked for new oriental in two different cities and the locations operated TOTALLY DIFFERENT so your question can only be truthfully answered by someone who worked at the location you are interested in joining.

My friend and I both did part time work there as side jobs and it was smooth. He decided to join then full time and quit after 2 weeks when they started jerking him around with hours and duties.

In location A I was paid on a weekly basis and given much work in the same location. We never had a contract. I worked and they paid me. Very smooth.

When I went to location B they pulled out this 5 page contract with crap about being fined xxx rmb if you are late and garbage like that. Breaks were unpaid ( means you teach a 4 hour class and the schedule was 1 to 3, 3:30 to 5:20) and textbooks were NEVER provided to the teacher. If you wanted one you had to go buy it from new Oriental. Travel was another thing. They would give you classes in the am at a school across the city from 8am to noon and then another class at 1pm to 5 pm and the taxi ride was an easy 40 minutes so no lunch. And they expected the teacher to pay the taxi fare without reimbursement.

So I would decline the classes that were far away.

And they have honesty issues. Asked me to do some corporate training for some company. Told me it was in my city. Turns out it was an hour plus car ride outside the city in another city and they didn't tell me this until the day before even though I asked them 10 times for the training site. Needless to say I declined teaching and traveling 3 hours for 4 hours of pay.

So two locations of the same company and two totally different experiences.
