Just saw an ad for TEFL Lecturer positions at Khalifa Univ, founded in 2007. Does anyone have the scoop regarding the current state of the English program, working conditions, salary & benefits including housing options, and overall experience there? BTW, I've got an MA-TESOL and Certificate plus 3 years in the Gulf. Thanks. |

I do wish someone would answer - I saw the same ad and am interested. I haven't read much of anything about this school.
I don't know if that is good....or bad!!! Good luck! |

Just came across your posts. If you look at IAT/Khalifa Uni you will find a long post of mine about them. As I had a bad experience, I wanted to warn others about them. That was 2008/9. I hope you can find it!! Things may have changed, but I doubt it. Beware!!PM me if you have any problems. |

Hi
Kustar is now much improved from before. All staff now have fixed Kustar contracts. The bottom line is that faculty will be paid a salary according to experience and qualifications and these can range depending on whether you are a lecturer or senior lecturer. SL can start from 15,000 pm upwards. A cash housing allowance is provided - those in Abu Dhabi get a higher allowance than those in Sharjah and it depends on whether you are married with kids, married without kids or single. Max 80K for education (2 or more kids). Flights for couple + up to 4 kids. Working Conditions are reasonable in Abu Dhabi and, from my point of view, excellent in Sharjah.
regards

It seems that folks are confusing IAT and KUSTAR/Khalifa Univ. These are not the same thing. IAT uses space at the KUSTAR facility for the Institute of Applied Technology, which is a high school. This is a boys' campus. Khalifa Univ. (KUSTAR) continues to operate a college at the same location. Both are totally different entities.
Currently, there are three campuses for IAT, also known as Applied Technology High School, in Abu Dhabi: boys' campuses at KUSTAR and Zayed Univ. and a Girls' Campus at Zayed University. Additionally, there are campuses at Al Ain, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Dubai, Mafreq. |

It was a stupid idea then and it's a stupid idea now! |

Friends who are working there as English faculty find the environment very professional. It's a highly transparent management approach (novel idea), and faculty have even been asked to sit in on the interviews for their prospective line managers. |
