BT, I mentioned Indiana University before, but I figure my MS will cost about $16k USD. Not the cheapest, but I think the program is pretty good. IU has always had a great rep among the social science/education crowd.
Incidentally, I looked at a couple of Aussie programs but after the USD dropped like a rock, the JPY/USD is more bang for my buck. |

That seems standard from the figures I'm getting. Actually, after a lot of thought, I think what I REALLY want is an MA in Linguistics. After 20 years of teaching, TESOL isn't all that exciting, but comparative linguistics is very interesting. I'm pretty sure it should work out just as well for me. I'll get a TEFL certificate like the DELTA or something to go along with it. Trouble is, I don't think it's offered widely as a distance program- have to check.
Yes, Australia is very expensive right now. The UK seems cheapest. Wish I could just go local as far as university study goes! |

Do you mean Applied Linguistics? I looked at an Aussie uni for that program (UNE, BTW) but went with an American uni for a few reasons. Also, some friends said that an education-based degree may be more practical for teaching. I was initially attracted to Applied Linguistics for future research, but made my choice and will stick to it. |

Yes, after some investigation that seems to be what's out there. I'm not too worried about the .ed part as I've so many years under my belt. Anyway, I think I might have found a good on campus situation in Guangzhou. The MA is issued and accredited by Leeds (affiliation). |

I think they have the cheapest MA TEFL I have seen online.
http://www.school-of-teacher-training.co.uk/Master%20of%20Arts%20in%20TEFL.html
However, they say they are accredited by an American organization which is not widely know here in the states. I think it is a relatively easy program that is super cheap. However, who knows that it can land a high paying job in the middle east. I bet it depends on the institution. |

You want to always be honest....
But sneaky is ok.....
Get your MA from a school with a brick and mortar campus....
Take some classes there at the school over the summer.
Do the rest online.
Then if someone asks if you attended classes there....
Why yes of course..... |

3100 GBP for an MA? Sorry, it's a scam or there is something they are leaving out.
The first warning is obvious:

Where's the ac.uk? Warning bells are ringing...

I am always scouring the web and I still haven't found a reasonably cheap MA in linguistics or TESOL. I found the Australian Universities too expensive and most American Universities are $12,000.
It would be great to find a brick and mortar with online option that is very reasonable but...haven't found one yet. |

Has anyone had any experience with Western Governors University or knows anyone who does?
They are an online institution but appear to be quite legitimate. Just wondering if they have a "rep". |

They hold regional accreditation (since 2003) by a recognized authority.
That would suggest they are legit.
