|
|
I have read several threads on The University of Tabuk. None of them explain in detail or even generally what its like to teach here. For whatever reason the replies seem to go off on tangents and there is no information gained. Everyone just seems to be ill informed or hates to go to Tabuk or mocks the salary. 4000USD$/ mth plus allowances.......why is this so bad? Just because you are in the desert? So what......is KSA the "tourist" mecca like I would dream of Jubail or Dammam or Jeddah just to go on a vacation. Its all KSA. Doing time for money.
It's not about the money?.......really? Find 4000USD a month in any other country as a teacher outside the Gulf. Very rare. The money is the draw and location may or may not be important. School conditions ....students/ program and unbiased views of past workers. That's the deal.
Anyone ever work here and can share their experience without arguing about women attending or how much they hate the area? any Facts?
I lived in Oman in a small village in the desert. I prefer that over the bigger cities like Riyadh. Some people prefer this.
No one has answered the previous requests on this. Only a little on Tabuk which I can search myself.
How about the University there? Anyone? No Tangents please. If you can't truly answer, then don't. I'm fine with it. |

One of the most conservative areas in the magic kingdom. However if you prefer the 'remote' and non-expat lifestyle, working here can be an interesting challenge. The locals are nice to you if you show respect for their traditions and religion. Remember respect for the faith is the key to getting on with Saudis. People who defy the rules end up being deported. Those who want excitement and adventure need only cross the Causeway to Bahrain, drive to Qatar or cross the border to Jordan and Syria (but not now). Visas normally very easy to get for western people who live in Saudi. |

I am wondering the same thing. The director interviewed me. Apparently they are moving gradually replacing the staff with direct hires v. subcontracted hires. That sounds promising. |

I've got an interview with them and an interview with a place in China. Both pay about $4000 usd. The China one offers housing. I'd also like to find out more about UT.
Thanks |

Tabuk isn't a place that I would take a baby Naturegirl... too far away from medical care. Don't even consider these marginal positions in Saudi with your baby.
Of course, I would want to check that detail out about the China job too.

The China job, I've thoroughly researched. I've found a guy who works there now. It's a year contract and then if they renew you you can renew up to three years in one go. They've got about 100 teachers. I'ts a Sino British consortium, which could be good, could be bad.
China's my first choice. I need to get the job though first. Good salary means they expect a lot. I've got about 20 pages of reading and research they sent me to go through before the interviw. |

I wonder if this negative information about Tabuk is still accurate. In my interview with the current director (a British guy), I was told that their program is undergoing a lot of changes. Apparently they are moving completely away from outsourcing and going to direct hires under their own management.
I have seen a some negative things online about UT, but from what I could gather the problems were primarily from a shady contracting company. |

Sometimes, you have to shift positions to see if a comment is indeed negative in a new light. Here's the new light:
NG123 is someone whom I've corresponded for a period of years. She had mentioned a choice, for the same amount of money in China, a Land of Culture, or Tabuk in Saudi Arabia, a land where women are basically considered baby-making machines.
Of the two, I implore her to choose China. As a point in fact, she is currently in SK, so the culture shock would be minimum.
As to the "squirrel" comment, well, I have some insight into that, but really, where in Saudi Arabia is there a teaching staff NOT overrun by squirrels? (Over to you, John! )
Now, to respond to her PM that I couldn't this morning...
It's just my TCW! |

I just interviewed with them. I was impressed with the hour long interview. The've got five satellite schools all with their own hospital. Not sure about pay yet, but the package sounds pretty good. Intl education, won't be getting that in china. |

Just remember... much of the time in the Gulf, that person that impressed you with his/her interview is someone that you never see again... and they tell you what you want to hear - not necessarily the actual conditions.
As a woman - especially you with a baby - I would avoid any employer in Saudi Arabia that doesn't guarantee placement in either Riyadh or Jeddah.
