So, what websites post the most jobs (either private/public schools). I know here in Abu Dhabi: its ADEC. Is there an ADEC equivalent in Dubai? I found my current position posted here on Dave's.
I am finishing up my one year stint as a fourth grade teacher in Abu Dhabi. My husband is also working at the same school as an Examination Officer/Part Time 9th/10th grade History Teacher. We would like to find positions for both of us at the same school. I have an M.Ed/Multiple Subject Teaching Credential/TESL/TEFL; my husband a B.A in History/TESL/TEFL. We're both Americans.

Short answer to the first question, to my knowledge is, no.
As for your requirements, you are more employable than your husband, at least in an educational situation.
Best advice I can give, do some research about the better international schools offering the American curriculum, you might get lucky. Most do direct hiring via their websites to my knowledge. |

Thanks Helen!
What can I say, you answered my question -- The Abu Dhabi school I am resigning from after one year is, in a word, depressing. I am only getting 8,000 and on top of this they were trying to get my husband to sign a form that said we would accept a reduction in pay, to offset the cost of the apartment which went up in rent. My husband refused. We are still holding on, and trying to survive until the end of June. I found out through some veteran teachers, that the school has been lowering the wages steadily each year. Years ago, people were getting paid 12,000 now all new hires get 8,000 and next year it will be less.
I still dream of living in Dubai and working in a decent school, with a nice apartment, and good pay. My husband and I will be going to Dubai this month and applying to as many schools as we can in person. If not its good bye U.A.E ... hello, Japan but I really don't want to leave so soon. |

You can look in the academic city area of sharjah as well. Head towards emirates road/national paints round about from the universities. There are a bunch of private schools (but they are not up to the level of the "international" schools in terms of salary or working conditions) but you might be able to get about 10K a month w/out benefits. Many of those schools would love western (ie white) faces to support their claims of IGCSE/A level courses. Good luck. |
