Cripes, Isabel, you actually like garbonzo beans? My mother's from Puerto Rico and always made us some when we were kids ... I learned to eat the rice around my beans then, and to this day still avoid them when I can. Although I agree that Middle Eastern food is great.

I just ate a bowlful with a little olive oil, garlic and salt. I love them. But most of the batch i just cooked is headed for hummous. I have traded a batch of hummous for some computer tech help. I brought dried garbanzos and tahini back with me to Korea from the States, and they are hot commodities.
Your mother's from Puerto Rico. Man, am I envious. My mother was from the U.S. and never could cook, rest her soul! |

Ahem, my mother could never cook either. Although every once in a while she'd whip up a tasty batch of platanos. |

Of Chinese foods, I only like vegetables because they are crisp and have their flavours preserved due to being stir-fried.
In general, I don't find Chinese food very appealing: neither their rice (no salt, why???) nor their meats taste special.
Ditto for other East Asian cuisines.
I like a combination of Western-style meats with Chinese veggies and Arab couscous.
If I must choose ethnic foods, I would not include any Chinese at all; it would go as follows:
- Arab;
- Indian;
- Israeli (the Sephardi and Arab varieties);
- Thai, Indonesian or Malaysian. |

Indian food isn't necessarily hot, any more than Mexican food is. Admittedly it's not the most subtle of cookery, but for those commited to wallowing in sensory decadence it's unmatched
The only Mexican 'food' I like is margaritas - the slushy ice ones, not the crap that c o c k tail (argh! Censors!) whackers try to pass off in place of the real thing. Daquiris taste just as good but there's nothing like tequila for an evening of complete and utter derangement I have to be careful with that stuff. I've been banned from every nightclub in town for the night when one of them was foolish enough to have $2 tequila shots. |
