Hi y'all,
I'm new to Dajing,China in Heilongjiang Province. (It's freezing here.)
1. Are there any other foreigners out there in Daqing? It would be great to hear from you! Gimme a shout.
2. I'd appreciate your opinion on the AsianBeauties.com website. * Scam?
3. Where can I buy the Milo beverage here? (box with the packaged Milo inside.) I've checked stores but can't find it.
4. I want to visit Harbin. Can you guys/gals tell me about it?
5. How are the Chinese gals here towards Western guys?
Thanks! |

Don't know if you're new to CHina or just new to Daqing. Anyway, generally speaking there are few obstacles to finding a gf in this country. Obesity, deformity, alchoholism, brain dead, odour. . . none have prevented many who came before you from being successful with the ladies although your chances improve if you can eliminate the variables above. |

There are a lot of foreigners in Daqing. You just have to dig around. Some don't want to hang out with other foreigners and prefer to be left alone. Others are in your boat and want to meet some friends that speak English other than "Where are you from?" and "Hello~!"

I can't suggest other websites. You'll have to form your own opinion on them. Personally, websites such as those are a waste of time for so many reasons.

Have you checked New Mart? If you have been to other places in China, you'll note things are much more expensive than other cities and nearly on par with Beijing, if you can even find stuff that is.

Cold as Daqing. Lots of Russians. You will be mistaken for a Russian over and over again. Some places can be a bit dangerous at night as there are guys who detest foreigners in general and Russians in particular.

Daqing, being a wealthy, oil-rich city, is different to other places. Local girls have a much larger pod of peas to choose from as there are more people with more money in Daqing than other places. There are not that many "poor" people compared to other cities and making a living is not difficult. This makes Chinese guys a lot more attractive to them and thus more of a prize. Finding a girl who is not native of Daqing but who moved to Daqing seeking her fortune would be much easier. A lot of Chinese-Korean girls have a mindframe of marrying a South Korean guy, so marrying a foreigner would not that be much farther of a stretch for them.
Good luck and enjoy the ice. |

Thanks for your answers! * The Great Wall of Whiner, no, I haven't checked New Mart for the
Milo beverage. Why are things more expensive here than other Chinese cities? When is the weather going to warm up here?

Should start to warm up in the next few weeks, albeit slowly. You are not far away from my wife's hometown.
It's more expensive than other cities in China because it is an oilfield. Panjin (Liaoning), Dongying (Shandong), and Daqing (Heilongjiang) are the big three oil cities in China. There are a lot of people with a lot of money around for a city of their populations and sizes. Notice the large number of luxury cars around? I see more per capita in these three cities than other places.
There is a large middle class, a larger than average number of wealthy people, and even the poorest of the working poor make many times more than say in Gansu province.
Enjoy the cold while it lasts... the summer will be a very dry hot. |
