|
Hi, i'm coming over from the uk in the middle of october to stay in taipei and was wandering if anyone had any advice concerning contracts for schools and appartments? I am planning to stay for at least a year so does the contract on an appartment/ room last for six months or a year?
And i know that the summer is the best time to come over (which isn't possible for me) so will i still be able to get enough work with a language school/ cram school in october?
Thanks. |

There is always work. Contracts are usually a year.
I think the best way to find an apartment is to pick a neighbourhood and go there with a local friend. Find the bulletin boards outside the schools. Not the tack up whatever over whomever kind but the well-organized, behind plexiglass kind. Start phoning ones that fit your budget.
Everything is negotiable...contracts are for a year and your will require 2 months deposit + 1st month. Also be aware that most apartments are just that. 4+walls, a toilet & sink and that's it.
Buying an apartment full of furniture was one of the greatest shopping adventures ever. Negotiating like a local, I was accused of being Taiwanese because of my shrewdness (miser-me). Remember, the best negotiator is willing to walk away. |

thanks for the advice, but if you rent an unfurnished appartment, what is included? For example, do you get a bed etc, or do you have to shop for those yourself? And my chinese is pretty basic at the moment, so would i have trouble signing contracts and talking to landlords? |

I could be mistaken, but didn't I already answer these questions for you?
Let's check, shall we?

Once again, I stand proven correct in my assumption. Are you sure you are ready to travel?
Sorry KM, just taking the pee outta ya cuz I weary of taking the time to give advice and the advisee pays mere lip-service to my notions, only to discover that if they'd actually lent me both ears, they'd have foregone any number of troubles. You just happen to be the straw breaking this camel's back.
Now, a valid question would be, "where can I find a local friend?"
I'd suggest locally..... |
