Is this to say that CELTA certificates and the similar alternatives have minimal effect on salary? Only on 'employability'? |
Correct! The people I knew who had the mighty CELTA still had low salaries in Mexico City where I taught and lived for years. |

I believe that Enchilada lives in San Luis Potosi, which is not Mexico City |
I lived and taught in Mexico City for years and I knew plenty of teachers who had the mighty CELTA. Guess what? It did nothing to improve their already low salaries.
Try getting certified in your own country amigo. That will help you 100 times more. |

Too bad for them. I have been in my current job for 8 months and have already gotten two raises, amounting to a 25% pay hike, and am due for another one in 3 more months.
I think there are just going to be some people, in whatever field, that aren't going to be successful. Blame it on whatever you like, but realize that YOUR experiences aren't everyone. Nor are mine. |

Good for you.
I think the long and short of it is that tefling is a dead-end career in most cases unless you have a plethora of qualifications. What the newbie should be aware of is that coming to Mexico on the mighty CELTA alone won't cut it in the long-run and won't make him enough to further his own eduction while here. I suggest either investing in some serious tefl eduction BEFORE coming or bringing enough savings to fork out for it in the long run. |

Right again! Having a lot of savings before coming cannot be stressed enough. Trust me...you'll need it. |
