And sadly, British Council is still the best of the "language schools" in the Kingdom. The only way to survive these places is to only work for them part-time... a class or two a semester...

Whilst I've worked for the BC in the Middle East and have a lot to thank for them I really do think the company is changing in to a money making machine. The centre I worked at is using all the spare space it's got for extra classrooms. They've done away with the library and computer facilities along with customer service areas and converted them accordingly. They have full courses on Fridays and Saturdays, before the centre was closed except for IELTS testing. This in addition to increased off site courses around the region.
With all the UK govt cuts my guess is the BC have been told to make money where possible or face closure which has already been mooted. |
