Well, I work on Saturdays here in Mexico city and get paid $250 pesos an hour.
Its a six hour course and I thoroughly enjoy teaching the group.
By the way, I never applied for this job, I was invited to participate in this course. non native speakers are also teaching courses at the same time as me.
I guess alot has to do with your teaching experience, networking, getting a reputation for being a good teacher and then the offers of work cross your path.
Simply working on Saturdays pays my rent. |

Fair comment Isla-
I don't live in any of the fancy places; Condesa, La Roma, Polanco etc.
A nice simple place with a large garden for my dogs. I'm happy with it. |

I don't live in a fancy place either, but I guess it's a bit fancier than your neighborhood. Is your neighborhood convenient to places you travel to for work? I don't mind paying the rent I do because my colonia is centrally-located, about halfway between the Centro Histrico and Chapultepec. |

Anywhere thats between the centro historico and Chapultepec is a pretty nice zone.
I actually live outside of the periferico. I travel quite a bit but I enjoy the commute. |

Not really. There are decent two bedroom places in my area for $2000 pesos. But like Gregory, I live in a non trendy area. I saw a great apartment for rent the other day for $2700, huge rooms, LR, separate DR and big kitchen, and two lofted bedrooms. Service patio and close to loads of public transportation. You pay a huge premium for the area. |

It's worth it to me to live in this area! |

Thank you all for your replies Currently I am working on my online TEFL course which is great to finally get started with. My dream about Mexico seems more real now and not just a blurry vision after too much red vine. So now the plan is to go there in October, to Mexico City or Guadalajara and hopefully I will find a job. I still have a lot of research to do, but as I read somewhere on this forum it is better to just go there and more or less go with the flow...I am full of hope for my future there and I look forward to the challenge
So once again, thank you all, every post was informative
