Which is the main dispatch company in Osaka at the moment?

I've seen Borderlink operate there, but from what I've read about them on this forum, I think I'd be better to stay away.

Are there more jobs available directly with schools or the BOE? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have only heard this, so take it with a grain of salt.

The BoE of Osaka is broke/doesn't manage things well. Which makes Osaka a black hole for ALTs I am sure others can give a better explanation.

Kansai area links that I know of (I think these are in the FAQ sticky, too):
http://www.kfm.to
http://www.kto.co.jp
http://www.kansaiscene.com/classifieds.shtml

Try also looking up Metropolis.

Minerva and Ivy are the biggest. ECC used to be big but they lost their big contract a few years ago and basically have nothing.

A fair number of cities hire directly or wait until September. Interac has a fair number of people as well but they tend to keep people from Sakai (always starts in September) and give them jobs.

Thanks for your help guys.

Cheers Glenski but two of those links dont work anymore and the other two seem to be out of date, i found two jobs on one of them and none on the other.

If anyone has any more links/info, please share.

Intersquare contracted the HS positions.
I don't recommend them and i don't think they'll get the contracts for the upcoming school year.
I heard that nearly 50% of the people they hired didn't finish out their contracts. What you have is an incompetent company hiring terrible 'teachers'.

This is the exact reason I left Osaka. There are no jobs to be had, and what jobs are around are there because they are awful places to work.

Altia has very few contracts in Osaka. I can't remember what site I was looking at but I saw the Minoh BOE hiring for next year. I know one year Suita was direct hiring but I'm not sure if they are anymore.

Are also places to look.

I looked at the Minoh job, 250,000 for a direct hire position that requires a high level of Japanese ability. That's pretty terrible.

After visiting Kansai a few times, I've become fond of the people and culture there. They're so much more friendly and open than in other areas of Japan.

What about other areas in Kansai? Or other areas of Japan with a similar vibe? It doesn't look like I'll be moving until the next school year now, so it's not so important but if you can share any information with me it would be appreciated.

Not necessarily as you're not teaching for a substantial part of the time, plus you've got full pay for 12 months. The level of Japanese required isn't that high but it eliminates a lot of people.

I advise anyone who wants to work as an ALT to check out Hello Work - a lot of cities automatically list their job ads there. A few years ago I found one for Fujiidera where the salary was 300,000 a month with a 720,000 yen bonus twice a year (the HW guy called and confirmed for me). I know Otsu in Shiga and Hirakata hire directly.

Thats a shame, I was there in a small school for 6 months a few years ago, didn't expect things to be so bad in Osaka.

How are ALT jobs at high schools there? Can foreign teachers teach by themselves?

What are the bonuses like in Hirakata?

Well that's a shame. Osaka has been at the top of my list for a while. What other major cities are looking good job wise? How is the job market in Kyoto?

The job market in Kyoto is probably 10 times worse than in Osaka!! There is really nothing here. I think the JET program just took over all the ALT contracts, so now there are lots of jobless ALTs to compete with, too.
