I'm not sure if my accounting dept where I work is actually sending all that tax money for my housing allowance to the tax dept... instead pocketing it.

Is there a nice easy way to go to the tax dept, get them to look up my passport number and all, and get my tax records??

I'm also asking my accounting dept to supply me with a full statement... if they don't match, there'll be all hell to pay (me being hell :p)

(FTR, my tax allowance is getting taxed as personal income, cos I don't have a fapiao... a different story!)

Do you really believe you can inflict hell on a university, let alone the government?

Why is it the default that you accuse or blame anyone of fraud?

They should provide an official tax receipt from the tax department every two months. If they cannot or will not provide the receipt, chances are they're not paying your tax. If they are, they'd get a receipt and should have no trouble giving it to you. So, ask them if they're paying your taxes, and if the answer is yes, tell them you need the receipts. If they refuse, they're not being truthful.

Been there done that.

Contact your City FAO. If your employer cannot or will not answer your questions, it is the City FAO's responsibility to get involved.

Yeah, funny that.

As others say, demand the receipts. If the school won't provide them, that suggests they are not paying.

I don't detect any accusation. He asked a question.

I don't know how much you know about other ESL/TEFL boards, but one thing for sure is that if enough people say bad things about a school on other forums, the school can have a very difficult time recruiting teachers.

But back to the original question. I made a comment on another thread about my own experiences with tax receipts. When i was having so many problems converting rmb to dollars, I asked my FAO for tax receipts which the banks indicated that they needed in order for me to convert the rmb to dollars myself. I was told that my tax wasn't reported because i was considered temporary, so the school didn't bother to remit taxes. The tax office told my Chinese friend that there was no record of my taxes having been paid. Was fraud committed?

The OP has a legitimate question.
