I've been there quite a few times. Not sure what you're looking for but it has a very good ballet / opera house and plenty of theatres. Otherwise, it's a fairly typical provincial Russian city - pretty quiet.
If you're looking at working in a private language school, I think Britannia Language Centre would be the best bet.
You could easily pick up extra work with private students (and probably at Universities) but if you're coming from outside Russia, you would need a company that could arrange a visa in the first instance.
