If they believe that a white-faced, young-looking, tall, slender, blonde-haired, blue-eyed pretty female with no education nor experience will attract more students than a 30-something, overweight, short, balding guy with a very dark complexion who holds multiple PhDs in English and education and has 15 years experience teaching, guess who they want to hire?

Sadly, though, the students will probably go with the first one.

That's what he meant....

re:Danasemail.... quite obviously, this person is a wumao... a local (Chinese) person who is paid to post messages on expat type forums to curry favour and change our impression of the Middle Kingdom). All posts I've seen from this person have said the same thing - implying anything negative about China is not only bad, but ridiculously wrong!

To the OP - I may suggest (having no idea if it's going to be true or not), but maybe you'd have slightly better luck with a university in a joint project with an overseas university... especially a US-Sino project... Also, if you're that worried, the picture you send them could have the brightness turned up :p (or, do what is perfectly acceptable here, and just get a completely different picture :p)

To answer your question (as Naturegirl did), yeah, sorry, but China seriously sucks for this!!! Go for places that actually value education.
