I have read all the posts here and in the job information journal about Shane English School. Most seem to think it is a pretty bad place to work. However, does anyone have experience working for them part-time?

Most of the complaints about Shane seem to centre around overpriced accommodation, a 6 day working week, long travelling distances and terrible text books.

A new Shane has recently opened in Fukuoka. They are offering a decent hourly wage and there are just four hours a day, four days a week. There would be no travelling time, none of the problems concerning the 6 day schedule (unless they often call on part-timers to fill in) and I don't need their accommodation. So aside from crap textbooks (which I think is pretty standard in Japan) what other problems might I encounter if I accepted a part-time job with them?

Hello I work for them and they're ok. No worse than anybody else. Your experience with them would largely depend on your DoS I think. The textbooks are bad but not terrible and you can do your own thing no problem with that. The kids books are a lot better than the adult books. Some teachers get screwed with 6 day weeks, but I haven't been. One of the biggest issues I have is that I have to travel long distances to work but that could be less of a problem for you. There are quite a few teachers at Shane who have been here for ages and dont have any problems at all.

Last post summed it up well. I worked for Shane and never had any problems. Obviously you need to have a good look at the contract you sign to make sure it is what you think, but I don't think Shane are that bad.
