| JerkyBoy, be aware that if you're on a single-entry business visit visa, once you leave KSA, you can't return to the Kingdom on that same visa. So if you plan on spending some occasional R&R outside the country (exclusive of the 30-day vacation), you're stuck doing so during those visa renewal runs, and you don't get to choose where you'll go. The opportunity to leave and return is better if you are issued a work permit/iqama. But as indicated on this forum, many recruiters go the cheaper, business/work visit visa route. |

| I recently ran across this blog posting: http://blueabaya.blogspot.com/ . The blog is by a Finnish Woman who live in SA. It seemed to answer your question about travels outside of SA. |
Thanks for this. It may come in useful one day. |

Given what most say about life in the Kingdom, having something to look forward to seems constructive.
And hey, maybe you will wind up having hellish problems with your visa, get deported and wind up in one of these countries and then you can see the sights recommended by Layla. |

You would think it would be a handy location from which to see more of the world, especially with all those ill-gotten petro-dollars. Alas, being but slaves, we are denied the hearty holiday allowance afforded the rest of the teacher race.
Bahrain it is. Cheers!
My recruiter is now telling me I can go abroad on weekends if I "get an exit visa" - is this bullsh*t or does he know something you guys don't? |

You've got the 2 Eid holidays.......ideal for a trip to Sharm El-Sheikh or Hurgada, Goa, Thailand or Sri Lanka.......my pal's just come back from Sri Lanka and said it was shite.Sharm and Hurgada are great for diving. A few mates have also been to Jordan and liked it.
Weekend escapes centre around Bahrain. Get to 'Diggers'...have a drink and an oil change with the local brasses. Stay somewhere cheap like 'The Gulf Pearl'. However, those Bahrain trips ain't cheap. Doha and Dubai are a quick.....sometimes costly flight away.
For the Eid hols book your tickets well, well, well in advance as the ticket prices go insane. The problem is the official holiday isn't usually announced till the last minute.
Saudi is only as crap as you make it. Get good internet, join a gym, don't hang about with the passive aggressive schemie nutjobs and brew wine........then you'll be ok. Forget dating......it's a sausage fest. |
