I heard from a colleague in Muscat, Oman, that root canals and other bridge-work/dental work is difficult to obtain in KSA. I wasn't planning on any dental work, but wondered if up to date dental work is readily available and affordable in KSA?

Whaddaya say, vets, have ye had any work on the Chompers lately? Not braces or retainers or anything, but simple cleanings or even fillings of relatively "manageable" cavities?

If a root canal should become necessary, can they perform it in a modern way, such as without the use of a major nerve blocker into the jawbone?

What about things like chiropractic care?

Seriously? What rock is that colleague living under? All sorts of dental work is readily available here. Go to Maghrabi Clinic/Hospital for the best and most modern care.

Chiropractic care will of course be harder to find, but there are a few in the major cities.

I would have just ommited the snide remark and written.

But to each his/her own. I like the kinder gentler approach.

Dear 12 Monkeys,
As his avatar may indicate, getting trap to adopt a "kinder, gentler" writing style could, perhaps, be likened to "pulling teeth."

There of plenty of well trained dental specialists in KSA. I got root canal treatment, a bridge and two crowns done. No complaints. And all for free. Three Egyptian dentists worked away on me for 3 hours. My local dentist told me it would have cost a fortune in Europe.

That colleague of mine tends to be a swine windbag, as well as a great spinner of doom-and-gloom tales, so it doesn't surprise me to hear of the great dental care available there, in contradiction to what he claims.

Yeah European dental care would cost an arm and a leg (how the hell would THAT happen? WOuld the dental drill penetrate to the femur or fibula? Laughing )

Yikes!

I wouldn't have dental work done in another country again. I tried to save money by having eight cavities filled all at once in Costa Rica. The dentist was lovely, but the results were questionable.

Kip I am indeed in Oman in Mind, but man oh man, am I minding the midday sun! While a wilting fifty-five degree wallop would be well, had I a half a ham-hock, I'm minding the blinding fun in the sun!

Ditto for Mexico. At least I would not go to a solo practitioner working out of his own apartment again, no matter how nice he was.

Rather than start a new thread. I did a search and found this one since its the same topic.

This thread is over 2 years old though. Although I would imagine the state of dental care to stay the same and even improve, I have an additional question. What about costs? Compared to the typical dental health plan in America? What about costs compared to Korea if anyone knows? I will need some major dental work done (root canals, etc.).

Related but will add to this, how expensive is medical treatment comparatively as well?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

A teacher at my job had the dentist destroy his teeth. He left the country to get dental work, so ask at work for referrals.

I had a huge two sided filling crumble and I went to Obaeid Specialized Hospital in Riyadh. The Syrian Dentist did a great job and a filling that would have cost me $600 or more in the U.S. was $18 here.

I have had work done there as well and can vouch for the great quality, btw, the dentist was also a female (not sure what her nationality was maybe she was the same dentist?- Syrian?)

I have also had some dental work while in Abha a number of years ago, at the Abha Private Hospital. The Jordanian dentist there did good work as well.
