I know it's a very general question, but could anyone familiar with Putrajaya give their impression of the city? Would it be a viable option to live in KL and commute to Putrajaya?
Also, does anyone have any information on Nexus International School?
Thanks |

Putridjaya is what happens when a bunch of *a*a* men form a committee and decide how and where to build a new city. They thought that if they built a new city, far from everything else, people would come. Well, a few businesses and colleges, that wanted to curry favour with these self-proclaimed wise men, did set up shop, but normal people didn't take the bait.
So, Putridjaya is a dull, boring, overbuilt monstrosity out in the middle of nowhere where one is forced, sometimes, to go beg at the feet of government bureaucrats. It has poor transport links (easier to get there than to leave) and no culture whatsoever; unless you like bureaucratic culture.
But, hey, there is a manmade lake. Hahahahahaha....
Most cultures in the world hate committees. This culture LOVES committees.
A camel is a horse designed by committee.- Alec Issigonis
People who enjoy meetings should not be in charge of anything. ~Thomas Sowell
A committee should consist of three men, two of whom are absent.- Herbert Beerbohm Tree
A committee is a group that keeps minutes and loses hours. ~Milton Berle |

The closest normal housing area to Putridjaya is, I think, called Seri Kembangan. I have a former colleague who moved there, but works up in KL. She said that SK is quite boring also (only shoplots and housing), but it still beats Putridjaya which has little in the way of housing.
If you are being considered for a job by Nexus International, ask if you can correspond with a teacher or two regarding living conditions near the school. They would be the best sources.
Commuting from KL could be problematic given the heavy traffic going both ways. You may be better off looking south of Putridjaya (towards Bangi) rather than north (towards KL).
There is a company that produces a very good mapbook of KL and the Klang Valley. I found it invaluable for the four years plus that I lived in KL, and still refer to it when I need to travel to someplace new in that area. If you are not already in Malaysia, you can pick up a copy at nearly any bookstore once you arrive. |

I've only been to Putrajaya once, obviously to get some paperwork sorted. I got there from KL Sentral using the KLIA Transit train and then a short taxi ride. It wasn't too terrible a journey. I'm not saying I'd be overjoyed to do that everyday, but not many commutes in KL are fun.
Why has someone opened an international school in Putrajaya? Potty. |

Thanks for the input. We'd like to live somewhere near central KL. According to google maps, Putrajaya is 35km (40 minute car journey) from Bukit Bintang. If that commute time is accurate, I guess that's not too bad. The only problem being if traffic is much worse than Mr Google suggests and the commute turns into +1 hour. |

Exactly. Actually, maybe more like 1 1/2 to 2 hour commutes, especially on rainy days.
Any reason why you want to stay in high-rent Bukit Bintang? Check out Kajang, Nilai, and Bangi for cheaper rentals. |

My wife wouldn't be working and being a a 'big city' girl, would be looking for somewhere cosmopolitan on the doorstep. I'm not familiar with those other areas KayuJati, but would they fit the criteria? Thanks. |

My girlfriend is Indonesian, and she studied in nearby Cyberjaya for four years. She always had nothing but terrible things to say about Putrajaya. Apparently it is a very conservative area with really strong Islamic views, and quite anti-American. |
