It sounds like everyone is out of step but you, Teacher Lindsay. Don't ask questions if you aren't prepared to accept the answers.

Dear Teacher Lindsay,
My opinions are in the mail (PM, that is).

Teacher Lindsay--

The fact that you cannot see what is so mean-spirited about this thread says an awful lot about you.

You have singled out one person, based, as stated in one of your follow-up posts, only on a select few of her postings--not even a clear picture. You have stated a negative opinion of her (humourless), and you have asked other posters to agree with you. Like you're trying to get the forum to gang up on her or something. How can you NOT see the mean-spiritedness in those things?

Shaman

Have I rejected any answers?

Johnslat

I have received your PM, thank you.

Denise

Are you suggesting that it is improper for any forum contributor to comment upon the writing style or demeanour or actions of another forum contributor?

Have you seen the threads "Why are there so many old white dudes marrying young chinese", "IN DEFENCE OF WHITJOHN", "In Defence Of Roger In Defence Of Whitjon!", "Who is Victoria?", "Cowboy Pete Sent Me This PM....", et al?

Is650

I always have an afternoon nap.

Cheers

Well, at least her posts are not taken directly from chain emails.

TL--

You have not answered the question. Instead of explaining why you don't think this thread is mean-spirited, you've turned around and questioned me, bringing in half a dozen unrelated threads.

To answer your question: I believe that any thread that negatively singles out another person (regardless of who started is or who it is about) is mean-spirited. Where's the healthy debate? There is none. It's just a one-sided attack.

By mentioning those other threads, are you suggesting that just because others have done it before you, it's OK for you to do it too?

Yes we've had quite enough ad hominem posts in the past few weeks (that's Latin, Aramas Surprised ). Do we really need more, Teacher? Not to mention ad feminazi'ems.

But don't you go there girlfriend!

kh

P.S. In case my post about Capergirl being conservative or whatever was misinterpreted, and i see how it might have been (I mean we all get a bit tetchy at times, even the best of us)-- let me be categorically clear: CG is the coolest woman there is. I know, and I aint even met her....

Ah, semantics. I used the word accept. When one questions another's answers, does that usually signify to you an acceptance of them?

A simple solution to the question of your initial post would be simply to read some of Capergirl's prior posts. That way you could draw your own conclusions. Sounds reasonable, doesn't it?

'Teacher Lindsay', you have quite a habit of this, don't you? I refer the reader, for example, to your 'post' entitled 'One for Ludwig', presumably because I dare employ words of more than one phoneme.

By the way, which part of your TESOL course, exactly, makes you a 'teacher'?

Or perhaps you feel it was those thirty-odd years you spent peddling insurance from door to door.

Ludwig

Is it wrong to post a message comprising a joke that someone sent me as an e-mail?

Denise

Is there not a healthy debate underway as to whether certain posts are inappropriate?

khmerhit

Should the forum have a limit as to the number of particularly themed threads?

Shaman

Does that usually signify to you a rejection of them? Is it possible that someone would answer a question with a question so as to clarify the point before providing a direct answer?

And cannot I not make a judgement of matters that have occured since I joined the forum?

And Ludwig again

Do you have a reading comprehension problem?

TL--

Round and round we go.

Nobody has agreed with you. Several people have spoken up in Capergirl's defense. Do those two facts answer your initial question?

You have not answered the questions posed to you. Why not? You have turned them all around and questioned us. Please be so good as to answer some of the questions addressed to you.

Not that I like what you're doing here, Teacher Lindsay, indeed I think it is quite mean - spirited, and not at all like you ... but that thread about Ludwig's writing style was kind of funny. I think you all need to take TL a little less seriously - probably the OP was intended as nothing more than a joke, but nobody got it.

Have you answered my initial questions? Should I answer any of your questions before you have answered mine?

Yes. On May 2, I wrote:-

Of course, no hard feelings.

I think my smartass comments add a little zest to this forum.

But I don't take myself seriously, and I don't expect anyone else to.

Does anyone know whether Capergirl has ever posted a funny, or at least light-hearted, message? Is she the most humour-less, conservative contributor to this forum?

Okay, fine, I will continue beating this dead horse. Capergirl has posted several funny, light-hearted messages...do you ever read posts on Dave's, or do you just ask questions of the members? Capergirl is hardly humourless, and while she is no bleeding heart liberal, I don't find her particularly conservative either.

TL, what was your motivation for starting this thread? My guess is that you are trolling, trying to bait Capergirl into responding in an attempt to get her to play "post tag" with you (as in "Tag, you're it! Now you post a reply to my previous post!"). Capergirl has fallen into similiar traps a few times recently. However, apparently she has learned her lesson...it appears she is not going to grant you the satisfaction of replying to this thread. Good for her, as I for one am sick of guys like you giving her sh*t on this forum.

Cheers,
Kirk
