I'm torn between buying an engagement ring here or doing so when I return home.
I understand there's great value to be had in the souks but to be honest I know nothing of the famous 4Cs and even less about where to avoid or go etc.
Can anyone point me to a regular haunt of theirs...make a recommendation...suggest a place or a name for me where I could at least worry a little less about making a complete fool of myself?
Many thanks in advance! |

Wait... didn't we have this exact same question just a year or two or three ago?

The key was to use diamond, not gold... and you have to be sure to use "search for all terms." Don't know if it will help you at all, but at least I found that my memory is still working... sort of.

I bought my wedding ring in a gold souk (threw it off the balcony some years ago) and I'd go for the wait till you get home option. Why? Well, a lot of the gold is that very orange 24 carat stuff. It's really soft and bendy but popular with them 'injuns'. |

You can find plenty of 18ct. gold as well. These are usually made in Italy which has the corner on the technology for making the highest quality chains as well as other 18ct. gold jewelry. This is the world standard, and it is more expensive than the 24ct. stuff. |
