Hi all,

I recently posted in regard to working in Mexico city. International house told me they would be able to offer me something as I have a Celta cert.

What I would like to know is if anyone has worked with them recently, and the type of classes they offer.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I know a lot of people who've worked there. I think it's supposed to be alright, at least as a first job in DF. Pay is not great but not bad either. Of the 5 people I know who worked there, all left for something better after about 6 months. But they don't have anything particularly bad to say about IH, either.

I felt the same way about IH. Not great, but not bad either. They pay on time, they`re on the up and up and the building is a nice one. Free internet service and I recall a moderate sized EFL library.

IH is a lot better than Berlitz, Interlingua, or Harmon Hall.

The school has strong ties to Cambridge, has legitimate standards for its teachers (certification is a must), and an emphasis on certifications and testing for its students as well.

Avoid the 'chains' - IH is a legitimate alternative.

Since IH is all over the world I think the argument could be made that they are also a chain. I have known a couple of people who have worked there, and the pretty much said the same thing, decent pay, on time, decent working conditions. But that is if you have a qualification. If you don't you won't get hired.

Good first job in el mighty DF.

Like other posters have said, you could do a lot, lot worse.

They offered me a gig with some free Spanish lessons thrown in and a certification in teaching biz English, a $5000 peso value...

I was offered a job multiple times with a no-name generic TEFL cert... But I was had a few years of teaching EFL in Mexico under my proverbial hand-crafted Mexican leather belt (BTW, Mexico has some of the best leather goods, still have a belt that I paid 80 pesos for 6 years ago in good shape) Cool

Yes, I bought two belts in Valladolid way back in 2003 and I still have one. Beautiful wrought design work on the belt, but unfortunately the prettier of the two became unraveled and had to send it to Orion in the sky.

I have to agree with what others have said, and I worked there a year. I think the BEST advice is to not work there as a full-time teacher and to stay as far away as possible from the bad-side of the owner, Ariel. And I think anyone else who knows the place will agree with me. But, you can do better...and also worse!

This is good advice. Or better, don't work there at all. They've gotten unreliable on the pay, and most people I know who worked there didn't last even a year until either they were fired or they left. Aside from Ariel, the place is horrendously disorganized. The accountant didn't even know class cancelation policy when I worked there.

In contrast, I'm quite happy now at the Anglo on Antonio Caso. Just saying...
