Hope you guys might know the answers to these questions: what about affordable (re: not expat) spas for manicures, pedicures, facials, and the like? I know that hair shops and massage places are all over, but the spa treatments? Don't drink really, so I might as well pamper myself.

Getting clothes made? In Changchun I went to a huge fabric place with tailors in the back and got all my clothes made since Chinese ones didn't fit. Good, or decent tailors?

To get to the bowling ally (保龄球) from downtown (Train station/Lindun lu) use bus 178 ( stops within a 10 minute walk) or from the South Bus station (218 stops out front). It takes around 45 minutes to get there from downtown . Not sure of the bus stop names so get a Chinese friend to ask the bus driver which stop is close to the the Dushu swimming pool which is next door

You will LOVE the new social taxes... Suzhou was very proactive with it (while other parts of China were slow to implement this, Suzhou wanted to be the first)

I ventured into a mall on my bike ride around Suzhou today after school. Weather is nice now! About 70f.

Sanso mall. Close to Shantang Street. Behind the Holiday Inn about 3 blocks to the west. Typical Chinese mall yes BUT in the basement was a BHG store. Filled with western goodies. I got some Mexican salsa (actually made in mexico) and various other goodies. The -B1 level has a bunch of restaurants and surprisingly a Pizza Hut AND a Papa Johns right across from each other.

A movie theater on the top floor with an Imax. For a better location of the mall check www.gewara.com (from the movie theater).

And YES they had A&W for 8 rmb a can but sadly only one dented can of Cherry Coke... sniff, sniff

I was going to GIST and followed the 178 bus to the area the first time I went there. (it's across from the Mcdonalds).

I'll look for the bowling ally on the next ride over.
