lots of long, confusing threads speculating on the new tax. how about
we limit this one to posts from those already (or informed they soon
will be) paying the october 2011 social security/retirement/health tax.
new contract is currently being prepped, so asked FAO about the tax.
she knew nothing, but would research it for me. an email today
informed me that the tax is in effect since september 1, 2011 and
the formula is: (salary-4800) * 10% -25=tax. she asked whether
i had seen any deductions yet. [hainan province]
according to this website, she just found the old income tax formula.

seems she mistaked the start of my contract with the tax start date.
i've seen NO deductions. neither the new tax or the standard income
tax. |

So I was lying I guess... Needless to say, I did not renew my contract when asked by April 16. Folks, you will work 1 month FOR FREE once the taxes come in to effect where you are at.

This website is VERY ACCURATE regarding China and this has mirrored my experience. Suzhou was one of the first to implement this, however...

Wow... Program A in Suzhou is 19% of income... Most will pay 11%

| I don't know, I just got my new contract offered to me with a 5% raise over my current NET salary. The pay offered is NET pay so if they are going to be taking money out to send to the government, it is not affecting my overall NET pay. We have yet to hear a word about this tax and if/when it will affect us. |

| We all signed new contracts yesterday. 5% pay raise over last year. No mention of any new tax and no-one at my place of employment has even heard of it. Our FAO has treated us well and if this tax ever does come to pass (lots of doubts in my mind still) we're confident they won't screw us over if all of a sudden a lump sum retroactive payment is due. |

| I was told if I sign another year I will get at least 10% but no mention was made of taxes and the current contract says THEY pay all the taxes so I hope they don't try to pull any bs over this. |

Where are you? Suzhou? Its my understanding that only a few places have the mechanics in place to implement.
But how confident are about that? The are the employer. They hold all the cards. Unless you are, of course, one of the ESL superstars. |

Just to clarify: Are you talking about your NET pay? |
I was offered a raise of 5% as well... but not enough to offset the loss... So there will be an available position for someone next year. |

10% or not the school I work at sucks... Because the students are bottom of the barrel offspring of rich parents who do nothing at all but whine and play games on their Iphones or Ipads.
The satisfaction of working here is close to ZERO and the turnover rate is very high because of this.
The ONLY comforts are the prep rate is minimal and I live 5 minutes away from the school.
Once the new contract is presented to me I will look it over with a fine tooth comb to see if mention is made of taxes.
In fact I will ask for it today as I need to go to the school office.
Forget about the teacher being a superstar, where are the students that are eager to learn and not just feed off their parents teet... |
