They ask for my passport # . Is this normal?? I have tried calling there twice but both times my contact was not in. I spent several mins (calling from Canada) talking to someone who spoke very broken english. Is my passport # required for them to arrange my visa?? SOme other posts have mentioned different visa's . As teachers are we not all getting "Z" Visa's?? Who normally pays for the visa?? Us or the employer/recruiter??
Does anything seem out of place in this application form?? Anything missing from it???
thx a bunch in advance.

Clearly this is an agent. What's your beef? You will have to provide your passport number - as important as your personal name!
Who pays for the work visa? Normally your employer. But who knows? |

The employer should pay for the visa. Some teachers come in on an 'F' visa...or even a tourist visa (which can be difficult to change later) It is best to come in on a'Z' visa which requires a letter of invitation from your emloyer. The employer must be registered and have permission for them to employ foreigners to issue a valid signed and stamped letter of invitation.
Giving your passport number is standard practise. It is common to be requested to send a copy of your passport.
Keep asking questions from the agent/employer and if they are not answered to your satisfaction...ask again...and again. A common Chinese trait is to avoid questions they cannot answer. They 'lose face' if they can't give an answer. Don't whatever you do, sign the contract on-line. Wait till you get to the place of work and SEE your accommodation. And SEE the schedule and the working conditions. Refuse to sign anything until everything is as it was promised to you. Stand firm.
Hope this helps
I was a 'newbie' three years ago and learnt the hard way.
Good Luck |

If you don't sign the contract before going over, how do you get the Z visa? If they do manage to get you a visa and when you get there you don't sign with the school, what happens? |

The visa offices require a signed stamped letter of invitation from the school. to issue a Z visa. Not a contract. An on-line contract or faxed contract is only a document of intent. It only becomes legal when both parties sign in the presence of witness(es). This of course is often glibbed over in China and all sorts of ducking a diving can take place. As I said, know your facts and stick to your guns.
Good luck

the advice is good. have a letter before you come over. FROM THE SCHOOL YOU WILL BE WITH. I do not like nor trust agents. they are in this game for the MONEY, not to assist you with finding a position that will work for you. if, IF, the agent gives you some school names - visit their web sites and check them out yourself.
the advantage in being in China is that you can visit the different schools BEFORE signing anything. and the agents/schools know this.
so the first year is kinda a "shot in the dark." you may get lucky and score a school you really like AND want to stay with a few years.
otherwise the first year is a "learning" experience and a time to travel, meet people, and find a school more suited to what you want.
and, , ,
you always have this forum to ask about a school/agent/FAO - the people who write in here are for the most part - basicly up front.
good hunting! |
