Hi. I have worked in Korea, and now I want to work in China for a year. I just got offered what I think sounds like a nice job. Does anyone have any information about this school?
Thanks |

Thanks Max, but what do you mean? Not pretty? Remote? I am just looking for an interesting place to live and work for a year.
Thanks |

If you are looking for an interesting place to live, look elsewhere. Although you will find all the western restaurants and businesses you need (mcdonalds, kfc, pizza hut, wal mart etc), the city is dirty, ugly, not interesting, and boring. Luckily for you, Beijing is 2-4 hours away by train. Beijing is a good weekend getaway. If no.17 middle school is an excellent school, it can make up for the lousy city. |

Agreed the city is a dump and not that interesting, but is big enough and has all you need. However there are quite a few interesting places to visit outside the city and it's good place to learn Mandarin.
Apparently the high speed rail from Beijing should be up and running sometime this year, that will cut the journey to 40 minutes. |

No, thanks You did not scare me away.
Heres the thing: I taught for 10 years in Korea. Now I just want to do a year in China, and make some money. I know the pay in China is not high, but the hours are low. As long as I can save 500 dollars a month, I will be happy. I do not need a lot of money to live. I want to do some are work, and I want to do it in China. So I am looking for a job that will not be much stress. The job in the middle school has low hours, and they pay airfare. The salary is not very good, but for the hours it is not bad.
18 hrs. a week for 6500. So I want to think about it for a few days. |

please let us know of your decision.
did you receive the email of current or former english teachers at the school in shijiazhuang? make sure the school is a good one. If you want low stress in China, make sure the school's admin. is adequate. |

OOPS, typo. I want to do some " art" work, not "are" work
.Also I am not sure how to check out any info. I know that a school will not give out some ones email address who is unhappy. I also know if a stranger wrote to me I would not open the email cause I would think it would be "spam". I hope I can get a job with air paid, and that is why I like the school cause they say they will pay for an air ticket. We shall see. I just started looking 2 weeks ago, so who knows. |

18 hours? If low hours are your goal, I would keep looking. You could find 14 at a vocational college. |

Low hours are not my goal. I would rather have a hig7 salary. But I also want a "good" job. Yes, I know jobs are a crap shoot. I have been in touch with another teacher there and she likes it. The admin is good, and salary is paid on time. It is hard to get western food, but I do not care.
There are so many jobs, and as everyone knows via the internet...who knows. |
