I rather like the girls in Japan. They may appear to live simple lives that center around fashion and beauty, but their spirits are no less than yours or mine. They`ve just dropped an anchor in another part of the void.

And to be honest, I`m not entirely sure that a great deal more depth is to be found elsewhere. The J-girls simply disquise it a bit better. Make no mistake, they can be as ruthless and cunning as any. Outright vicious at times.

Put a dozen J-girls on an island vs a dozen foreign women...and the J-girls would eat them alive. Not unlike how the Teletubbies would make mince meat of the loveable gang from Sesame Street.

The J-girl is the quintessential beast of prey.

PAULH has hit it on the nail. Sounds like several of my students too.

But on the other side though, I think that japanese women are also incredibly kind, warm and caring. If they are serious about you they will almost do anything for you and for the relationship. They don't have the stereotypical selfish materialistic attitude of many back home.
On the flip side of THAT however is that it feels as if you are dating a servant, not a gf whom you want as an equal

sounds just like the overseas chinese in indonesia - the ones with the money walk around in a bubble clothed in the most ridiculous fashions(?) with crazy haircuts looking like something off a poorly made music video - and that's just the men Laughing

tip toeing from their BMWs through the filth and past the beggers that surround the shopping malls.

with the exceltion of the filth, is this what to expect?

Interesting thread!

I too have noticed that 99% of my female university students have little or no interest in things outside of fashion, pop music or cutesy things.

Many are in school to work on their MRS degree.

To the OP, what kind of riding are you into? Are you gonna bring your bike? Details mate please, none of the people on this forum really know much about the mtbiking scene in Japan.

Sorry to have cut off that last question- please respond to that first.

I do have a question of my own: if some japanese women are sincere, kind, and end up waiting on you "hand and foot" like a servant- is it possible to deture this behavior? I like to pull my own weight in relationships- cook, care for, wait on her at times too (not that it isn't nice to have that done to myself on ocassion). But would doing that be insulting? Any experiences out there?

PS- though I understand how this can be a "contentious" thread, I think its healthy to be open about this stuff. Its going on in our heads anyways, let get it out on the table.

In my experience with my Japanese girlfriend, the fact that we both contribute to the relationship has made the relationship so much stronger.

She would like to wait on me hand and foot but the fact that I dont let her, and that I often do what in Japan is considered "females work" (generalization I understand) makes her more comfortable and a lot more loving to me.

I believe that it would not be insulting at all for you to "pull your weight" in a relationship with a Japanese girl.

This is just from my experience though.

In response to your question, I am into cross country single track (who isn't) I have a Giant XTC frame with various components & I'm hoping to bringing it with me, both to ride & to also upgrade while in Japan. I have my eye on a 2003 MCM Team Frame & some top end forks to match. I've seen that most of the major bike companies have stores in Japan and there seems to be a very good range available.

Let me give you a little rundown on what would happen to "Big Bird" if that freakoid mutant tangled with the Teletubbies...

A short recap of Big Bird wandering onto their hill...

Windmill spins, Teletubbies run around madly.

Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, and Po all receive small transmission flashes on their tummies, but Laa-Laa receives the full transmission and is very happy.

The live action film is shown:

Kraken-sun-baby, always laughing and smiling and making Kraken noises (What a nice little baby, though), is laughin and smiling and making Kraken noises. The flowers sway in the wind, and talk in a very high squeaky voice, generally making caustic comments (that's flowers for you). And while Big Bird roasts over an open fire, the miniature dancing bear comes down from the sky and does a little tap dance for the gathered Teletubbies. Three ships sail into view, turn around in unison, sail this way and that, and then go off into the horizon. Then, King Pleasure & the Biscuit Boys sing a cool jazzed up version of "How to get to Sesame Street" watched by an appreciative selection of dancing, jumping Walsall children...

When it is over, the Teletubbies say "Again, again!"

The film is shown again.

I'm really into MTB here, particularily back country stuff. The scene is huge here, and I am lucky to live in a prime area for it. First, I wouldn't bother bringing your bike unless it's really good. The shipping will be expensive, and in Japan you can find excellent quality used bikes for great prices. The Japanese tend to want the newest gear, even if they can't ride worth a damn, so you can find 2003 models that have hardly been touched.
