Hey! I have been teaching for the past 2 years in Ecuador and Peru, and I am so sick of being poor. While my quality of life is still very high, now that I have some experience I want to make more money. I have a dog (yes I know, but I am willing to pay extra for her). She is about 15 kilos. I am open to just about anywhere. Also it is very important for me to have access to nature. I am obsessed with rock climbing, camping, hiking, etc. I am thinking that Japan and Korea are out for the moment. Does anyone have any other places where the ability to save is moderate to high? Thanks!

It would help if you posted your specific qualifications (i.e., degree, TEFL cert, years of related experience).

A dog does not make Japan "out" unless you have other reasons for excluding Japan. That said, Japan WILL keep your dog in isolation and do "health tests" on it for 3 long weeks upon arrival.

Dogs are generally welcomed in most parts of Europe, and there are decent (and descent) rocks fairly widely available. However, teaching wages are really subsistence level, start-up costs apply, you'd need at least a CELTA, and unless you are from an EU member country, your right to work in the region is restricted to Central/Eastern Europe. There are probably easier places.

Turkey might be an option for you. They seemed to be fairly dog-friendly when I was there, and there are plenty of nice natural spots to walk in, especially beaches. You wouldn't be loaded, but the money is descent. Erm, I mean decent. Not sure about their quarantine laws though, as I was pet-free.

Good move getting out of Latin America. Asia (SK, Japan) are good places to go if you want to make REAL money. Good luck fellow TEFLer. |
