Hello everyone (wow, sounding like the start of an elementary school lesson...)
I am currently working as an ALT in Tokyo and have been here for just over a year.
I recently met up with Shinichiro Tanaka, a second year student at Sophia University (located in Yotsuya, Tokyo) who is doing a research project on language teaching in Japan. He is still looking for language teachers around the Tokyo area to interview in order to collect data about your experiences, including the difficulties/challenges you have faced as a teacher in Japan.
His original GaijinPot thread: http://forum.gaijinpot.com/showthread.php?119397-Student-at-Sophia-doing-research-on-Language-Teaching-in-Japan&highlight=shinichiro
He is a very personable guy and we had a pleasant conversation and a good laugh. He lived in the US since he was about 9 years old and just came back to Japan about a year and a half ago for university. He speaks English fluently and has a laid-back charm so the interview went very smoothly. We talked particularly about teaching resources (or the lack in Japan thereof) as he works for a company that is developing a free community-based site of language learning tools. It's like Moodle but much cleaner and more intuitive if you're familiar with Facebook's user interface.
If you are interested and have an hour or two to spare, please contact him via email at [email protected]. He can also direct you to the demo version of the site that is online as I'm not sure it's appropriate for me to post it up here myself.
Thank you for your help |
