I like to ask for people who try to get teaching jobs in countries like Japan where a BA is required for a visa.

How do these countries verify you have a Degree?
Do they actually call up the school you studied at?

Or what is the usual process?

I think it just depends on the country. When I worked in Turkey I just had to bring my degree with me. They looked at it and said I was good. But now I'm currently applying for a work visa for a job in the Middle East. I had to submit my transcripts, degrees, and verification letters to the country's embassy for them to approve them. I would check with the relevant embassy or consulate for specific procedures!

It largely depends on where you are headed.
Some countries require an apostille.
Some countries require that their consulate in YOUR country verifies the degree as legitimate.
Some countries require that YOUR embassy in their country verify the degree then have an embassy created and stamped certified true copy authenticated by their foreign office.
Some countries just want to see the original with embossed seal and matching transcripts.

There is no global consistency.

I've seen many require an apostille, which really doesn't verify the degree, but verifies the copy.
Or to see the original.
Ot transcripts.
Find out beforehand though. For example, MY embassy in the country that I am will NOT verify degrees. Or really anything. They don't do much anymore. Mad

The best way would be to get your degree authenticated and that's through your uni. Though not all places require that.

<the best way is to get a real degree from a real university MOD EDIT - which is the reason we need our degrees authenticated in many places>
