They also have a centre in Guangzhou in China for 25K usd and now they have the same for Turkey. It's about 3400 lira a month. Seems decent, though no one really knew much about them on the China board. It's a 30 hour work week and you only have to teach 20 hours. They provide housing, flights and a small living allowance as well. All things said, it seems like it would be a good job.
I did a search and couldn't find anything about them. Anyone know about them or know of someone who worked for them? |

I'm going to note three things about the ad:
1. If a school is going to pretend to be affiliated with a US school, an obscure community college is an odd choice.
2. The ad is written in the best English I've seen for an ad for a Turkish job, and the qualifications seem to be about the same as for teaching an equivalent job in the states. Seems to show unusual professionalism.
3. It's odd that they specify American citizens only.
Personally, if I qualified, I'd apply and ask directly what their connections with the California school is. Either they're affiliated, or they're trying really hard to seem affiliated. In the former case it's worth a shot; in the latter it still might be.

I don't think they're pretended. I emailed the person and got a reply. They said their programme has only been open for two years. There's also some info on the CCC website, but you really have to search for it.
They have info about teaching in China as well.
Not sure why they only allow US citizens, unless it's got something to do with being affiliated with a US school, maybe somehow they're hiring you through the US? and need to have legal working status? |

Yeah, most schools that pretend to be affiliated with something much more widely known like Harvard or Yale (though this seems to be more a Korean thing), or call themselves the "American School" or whatever.
I figured they were probably real, but I didn't spend more than about five minutes on the CCC website.
For some reason I'd thought you were an American (maybe because you were trying to get Romanian citizenship, and I can't see why an EU citizen would bother), but I take it from your spelling of "programme" that you're a Brit?
Any rate, like I said, you'd usually need a graduate degree to teach in a US college, but unlike in foreign countries that require an MA TESOL, US colleges tend to be more flexible, and I knew many teachers who taught things that weren't on their grad degree. And generally American schools prefer to hire Americans because it's much, much easier in the US Private colleges have the clout to hire foreigners but I wouldn't be surprised to find that community colleges don't bother. I suspect that these are the same qualifications they have to teach ESL at their US branch, and they're simply applying them wholesale to Turkey.

Guilty as charged American, but taught in British schools for about 6 years. Old habits die hard. In an American one now, but if I get the Chinese visa I'll be back in the British system once again. |

As far as I can see, this is a non-permanent job, offering $12,500 for a 16 week semester, and hoping the candidate might do a second semester.
It will be based at Kavram Vocational College (Meslek Yuksekokulu) in Esentepe, Istanbul.
In March 2012, they were looking for a bilingual program coordinator on this site :http://www.turkeyjobs77.com
And yes, you must be an American with a US passport to apply. |
