http://www.47.net/47society/

What is 47?
In short, 47 appears to be the quintessential random number of the universe. In other words, when a number appears randomly, more often than not, that number is 47. In other other words, if you asked people to pick a number at random, more often than not, that number would be 47. Of course, if 47 shows up more than any other number then it isn't truly random, but using the word random makes the whole phenomenon easier to describe.

Yeah, 47 has some strange qualities, and the show Star Trek is obsessed with that number, some even call it a conspiracy:

Confused Can we go back for a sec---this 47 stuff--it is a joke, is it not? Being a complete ignoramus with numbers, I can't tell. Help!

khmerhit, you're supposed to contribute the next number in our sequence, lest the thread go off- topic. I'll do yours,

49

and

50

as well because it's a nice, round number!

I've no idea if the 47 thing is a joke or not. I just googled it. The above used to be arranged in a nice big 53 but they all ran to the wall when I wasn't looking.

Yeah! that's it. But there were 53 of the little thingies.

Dangit, I missed Area-51. But I bet there's an even more mysterious Area-56.

Khmerhit,

BTW Do you want to point out to the innumerati on the 'world record attempt' thread that by any measure they have been off-task ever since response 13, in which the poster following you included 13, but not 14, having missed your 13 and having apparently forgotten to include the OPer in their countback?

Or shall we just let them drift on?

(I see that they are two out again now ...)

Surely you lose track of the odd sheep now and then, stillnosheep? Think of it that way. Life's not perfect.

On the other hand, yes---I probably would point it out to them. I'm a bit neurotic that way.

all grooviest,

So I'll begin ...

The mention of 'Heinz57' was in reply 58, which was the 59th post. This is the 60th post.

One could argue for a restart from '14'

13 seems to have been the unlucky number.

There were no problems up until 12

Except for the 1st reply not including 2 which had to be posthumously re-inserted in reply 3 which was post 4. From 5 things were OK until the afformentioned 14 reverting to 13 ...... and so on ad infinitum!
