Caper should be fine after this suitably worshipful thread. She was probably just a little peeved at having several people actually disagree with her. How disagreeable! Smile

In actual fact, Aramas, I have great respect for those who disagree with me...respectfully. I have no fear of other points of view. Life is a learning experience and I don't purport to have all the answers. Personal attacks, however, are another issue entirely. I don't take kindly to thugs, whether they be the physically aggressive kind or the verbally abusive kind. No one will bully me into backing down my position. If that makes me a "feminazi" in the eyes of persons like yourself, then that's a small price to pay for my dignity. If you don't stand for something in this life, my poor misguided Aramas, you will fall for anything. Cool

Ah, my poor condescending Caper. What do you stand for, exactly?

Dear Aramas,
Well, she certainly stands for a lot snide, patronizing guff from some posters on these forums.
These days, when I come back from subbing in a junior high school class and log on to Dave's, I get instant deju vu, reading some of this blatherskite.
Regards,
John

So, Capergirl, I suppose what you are saying is, Because he hit me first, I get to hit him back? Isn't that the way children justify behavior? It doesn't even sound like you read the OP from that other thread very carefully ... likening Teacher Lindsay to a "thug" is rather over - the - top, don't you think? How is it "verbally abusive" to make a joke? Unless you think TL's post was meant to be taken seriously, in which case you do need to lighten up a bit.

@anthyp:

To infer that Capergirl is referring solely to Teacher Lindsay would be a gross oversimplification.

@johnslat:

Couldn't have put it any better myself.

@aramas:

Condescending? That's laughable and hypocritical. Under the bridge with ye, troll.

Agreed, but I was doing nothing of the sort. To put Teacher Lindsay and his harmless jabs in the same category as those who truly do engage in "verbally abusive" behavior would be equally, er, gross.

The "Golden Rule" states: Due onto others as you would have them due onto you.

TL did his little bit and CG is doing hers. However the amount of people coming to the defence of CG and the amount of people coming to the defence of TL is startaling, but i have a feeling that TL is used to being the least liked person around.

I notice that Teacher Lindsay only joined Daves ESL Cafe less than two months ago. I do not know how long he has been in China for but I predict that, with his attitude, he will not last too long.

Rhonda dearie,

Are you prepared to put your money where your mouth is?

Before you answer, I will tell you that I was in Thailand for 5 years and in Papua New Guinea for 2 years with my attitude.

So Rhonda, are you a person of conviction, or one prone to making shallow, ill-informed remarks?

Cheers

I don't know about you, but doesn't this all seem terribly infantile? Rolling Eyes I have to say that I rather agree with Aramas and Anthyp on this one. I didn't think Capergirl's response to Lindsay's unwarranted post was especially clever or witty or mature (to me, mature would have been to ignore supposedly baseless accusations and say nothing... which is probably what I ought to be doing now), but that's up to her. Mocking others, however, who express opinions different from the majority (e.g. Shaman calling Aramas a 'troll') is a much more insidious problem than name calling. What a nice community we're becoming.

Where did I mention names? I think you are jumping the gun a bit here. I was not referring to TL at all. He is a minor irritation but I wouldn't go so far as to call him a thug. There are others on this site that would fit the bill, however. Cool

Do I think it's okay to hit someone back who hit me first? No. But this isn't about hitting, is it? It's about verbal sparring, something which I do think can be done without causing injury and can actually be a great deal of fun. Perhaps you ought to lighten up and read less (or more) into my posts?

One of the biggest disadvantages of this type of exchange (internet forum) is that you cannot see me smiling and/or laughing 90% of the time as I am reading and posting here. I have a much better sense of humour than some on here give me credit me for. Twisted Evil

I certainly could have taken the proverbial high road on this one, Mouse, but what fun would that have been? I just gave TL what he wanted. He's obviously a bit attention-starved, wouldn't you say? Wink Do any of you actually think he was offended by my thread? And furthermore, do you think I would intentionally set out to hurt someone? If the answer to number two is "yes", then that just tells me that you have no idea what kind of person I really am. I know TL's accusations were "baseless", laughable even. And I was laughing. I'm starting to think that I was the only one. Cool

Some of the people who have contributed to this thread (china regulars) clearly have too much time on their hands.

Capergirl, you gave a good humoured response to TL's unwarranted criticism.

What more is there to say?
