I feel that dave1 is no great loss to Education in the GUlf. Seems to me that he understands little of the whole question of how to treat people.

If he treats his "girlfriend", ie concubine, like this he should stay in Pattaya or Phuket.

Yes, some of the posters have made unfair assumptions about the original poster's relationship. BUT, anyone who wants to bring a 'girl friend' to live with him in a Gulf country - especially a TCN - obviously knows nothing of the culture he is entering or has little or no respect for the woman with which he is involved.

If he cares for this woman at all, he should either marry her or stay in a country where 'shacking up' does not immediately make the woman nothing but a prostitute at best. If he does not marry her, she IS a 'concubine' in this culture.

Not to mention that it is illegal to live together. While the police will ignore two westerners in most cases, mixed nationalities can and do end up in jail. And, yes --- I have heard about it - a number of times - in different Gulf countries. Though in most of the cases it was only the woman that was sentenced to lashes and deportation for prostitution.

Well this guy Adam is certainly brief, but I have some problems in getting the drift of his arguments.

As for the original poster, if he is going to bring in all those firearms, booze, dope and protected species, he might as well bring in a string of girls and go into business. More money in that that in teaching English !
