Hi

I have been looking at the Will-Excel master in TESOL which they say can be completed in a year for $2000. They are Canadian ran and based in Harbin.

Has anybody studied the masters with them and could you let me know how it was?

Cheers,

Jim

Will-Excel? Even the name sounds hokey? What, do they guarantee honors or your money back? Laughing

I have no idea about how this program is perceived in China but it would not be accepted here in Canada. It may be run by a Canadian, but it is not accredited here nor is it an acceptable program by any Canadian institutions. Heck, I don't even think Geos Language School will take it.

If you aren't interested in coming here with it then by all means, keep exploring it, but I just want to clarify the Canadian part of the deal.

One cautionary point--don't make the mistake of thinking this "Master of TESOL" is a degree program. It is simply a certificate issued by the company, not an MA. And ditto KSK's point about the name--it may play well in China, but will cause some eyes to roll on other continents.

Xie Lin is correct; an 'MA' from this programme is by no means equal to one earned at a university. They honestly don't call it a Master's - they call it an 'advanced diploma' (below). It might be helpful in China, but it's unlikely to travel well.

From their website:

Quote:
Is the Master of TESOL Diploma accredited?
Our Master of TESOL Diploma is internationally recognized as an advanced diploma and is accredited by the local Education Bureau.

It's accredited by a Chinese Education Bureau - again, unlikely to travel well outside of China. The 'interntionally recognized' is entirely unsubstantiated: pure advertising hype.

You mentioned in another thread that you don't have a BA, which means you're becoming more limited as to where in the world you can teach. I suggest skipping this Will-Excel diploma and putting your money toward getting a degree through an accredited university. Of course, a BA costs more than $2000 and takes a few years to complete, but it's necessary if you plan to stay in TEFL.

Terribly sorry. You didn't indicate clearly in OP that you were actually seeking entertainment rather than advice. Shocked

What sort of entertaining answers were you looking for?

It is a TESOL program run by a business, not an academic institution, masquerading as a master's degree that would be considered worthless here in Canada (so I have no idea why it touts itself as being "Canadian-based").

Sorry, I don't know how to attach a circus elephant photo to that Laughing

Academically, it is worthless.

You'd be far better off spending the money on a copy of Photoshop and leaning how to use it.

Degrees from the University of Photoshop are made everywhere and universally known to be of high quality (provided you use high quality paper).
