|
|
Hello,
I was wondering would a CELTA make a difference for someone like me?
I have a BA(not related to English) and a TEFL (not online). I have 5 years experience in ESL. I would love to do my masters but my circumstances right now aren't that great. In a couple of yrs an MA would be doable for me. The only thing I can do for now is a CELTA, and it still won't be that easy due to some family issues. So, would it make a positive difference right now ( career opportunities, salary, etc...) or it won't make that big a difference and I wait 2 yrs and do my masters????? |

If you already have a TEFL qualification a CELTA would not improve your job prospects in the Middle East. An MA would.

CELTA is worthless, Saudis neither know nor care. Foreign recruiters are not bothered what type of fourweeker you are. |

Ok, then what type of MA would be worth the trouble, money, and time?
In education, TEFL, or....????? |

Dear GoldnSilver,
Most (of the good) places want an MA in either TESOL or in Applied Linguistics.

Would an MA from a Saudi Uni be a plus or also worthless? If I ever am able to do my masters it will be from somewhere in the ME, probably Saudi or Egypt (where my husband's work is located). I cannot afford to go do a masters back home. |

That's young enough to invest in a Master programme somewhere good.

What if that is not an option for me right now? I might not return back home for the next five years.
What should I do in the meantime? |
