This is my first post here so I apologise if it is elementary, dear Watson.
I'm 4 months away from finishing my second year in Korea and, while I've had a good time here, I'm bored to death of it, and infatuated with the idea of Japan. I understand though that Japan will be a lot more difficult to enter in to.
How is the market for commercial schools in Japan? And what can I expect from them?
How difficult will life be if I cannot speak Japanese?
How much money should I take to get started?
Also... is it possible to get public school work without going through JET?
Oh dear.. the more questions I ask, the more I feel like a total n00b. A thousand apologies. |

Welcome, Sherlock! Mayhap you forgot to adorn your dear stalker hat and pipe today and used your magnifying glass to find the FAQs at the top of the page.
Just kidding We were all NOOBS once so I will have mercy on you
The answers:
1. Look for GaijinPot as they have schools advertising for jobs but this time of the year is not so good. Maybe salaries are 200,000 - 250,000 yen a month but these days very, very price down.
2. Life won't be hard if you just want an eikaiwa job. Many schools advertisze for just native English speakers. Some places want a bit of Japanese conversation ability but mostly not.
3. 5000 USD
4. Yes, you can work through disapatch agencies but usually it means very,. very price down. Sometimes only 10,000 yen for the day and no holiday pay or weekend pay. |

Thanks for your info.
Okay, I've seen that sticky now (there are so many stickies I didn't see it) and it's very helpful.
This thread might as well be deleted. |
