Sanity - check (I don't know for how long)
Kindle - in my wishlist
Laptop - check
Books - check
I don't wanna get ripped off down yonder for stuff that I can bring with me, so what else do you guys think I am missing? I especially don't wanna forget anything that I can't find there like comfy work shoes! |

Don't bring your marbles. Chances are that you will lose them. |

How about a mini photo album? Contents could include scenic shots of your local area and close friends and family. It could provide a tonic to you when things are getting frazzled in Kingdom. Provided that photos aren't too revealing, avoid party situations, don't show bottles of alcohol, or any physical contact with you and friends of the opposite sex, then you might be able to use it with classes. ONCE YOU HAVE GOT TO KNOW THEM AND HAVE A RAPPORT. (Otherwise, just stick to the scenic views.) |

That is good. Show them pics of your wife, sisters, daughter, mother and granny. Preferably in swimsuits.

For those who don't know the sources here... ahem... please do not listen to Scot and CT on this one.
They are trying to lead you astray.

Here is what I am taking:
1. laptop computer for Skyping with my wife and keeping up with Facebook.
2. My iPod, which contains about 5,000 songs.
3. My Nook, which has subscriptions to several journals.
4. My Teach Yourself Arabic book plus CDs.
5. My Colloquial Romanian book plus CDs (a lot of Romanian expatriates work at my university).
6. A week's worth of clothing, which includes seven pairs of trousers, socks, underwear, collared shirts, neckties, suit jackets, winter jacket and shoes.
7. Essential toiletries and medicine.
Upon arrival, I will need to get the following:
1. A futon or pull-out sofa for my apartment.
2. Two lamps.
3. Basic kitchenware.
4. A cell phone.
5. My driver's license translated into Arabic.
6. Possibly a used car if I can't carpool. |

OMG! How old are you? I bet you could get some good advice from your students...many have playstations. Most likely why they don't study much at home as they spend all their time on those crazy games!
To each his/her own...
Sweaty Ted...you seem super organized...your list seems about right! |

"My driver's license translated into Arabic."
How about an International Driver's License? I got one to travel back home and the rental companies claim that my license from my country of residence in the Gulf and the International Driver's license will work back home.
I wonder if it works in Saudi. |

Dear Gulazar,
"I wonder if it works in Saudi."
As with your home county's driver's license, you can drive for up to three months after arrival with an IDL.
Regards,
John |
