Based upon the comments in this thread, it seems like a competent teacher cannot get a decent high-paying job unless they are already in Shanghai.
So what's the solution for someone who isn't already in Shanghai? Come as a tourist and hunt for a job in person? Or is it easy to find short-term jobs that will allow you to work while you look for a better job? It seems like most jobs are looking for a one year commitment. |

Well,
The job search for me is over.
I accepted a job at Shanghai Jiaotong University.
I will be paid 3800 RMB. This is acutally lower than I was orignially told and I was not real happy about it. I did contact some teachers at the school and they told me that was the standard rate and that it was non-negotiable.
I will be teaching 12 hours a week, and I have to hold 1 office hour per week.
I will get a 400 a month utility allowance.
I can get on campus housing or a 2000 RMB per month allowance.
Mediacare is also provided.
I will also have to give 3-4 lectures while I am there.
Airfare will be reimbursed at the end of the contract.
How is everybody else faring with their job searches?

I'm glad that the waiting is over for you. Out of curiosity, at which campus will you be teaching? What will you be teaching? |
