I have tentatively accepted a job and I asked for a compressed schedule. They agreed and said it wouldn't be a problem. You never know until you ask.

Yep, if you ask early enough and to a senior enough person you can have the schedules managed to suit your needs at universities. I taught solely on the Old campus of my university but the other two FTs for the college taught solely on the New campus that was built two years ago a couple of city districts away, about an hour by bus from the Old campus where our teachers apartments were.
After the first semester the Vice-Dean of the college and the senior admin sat down with us FTs and had a discussion on how things could be improved. As a result all the New campus classes were compressed to 2 days...
Two days solid work and 5 days off. Not bad for them.
On the old campus 5 minutes walk from classes I still had 5 days of classes with only one or two 2-hour classes on a day, but without the hour bus ride I didn't care, the metro was handy and I had time to head to the CBD after morning class and still be back in time for evening class. |
