HI all,
As far as I understand it, you are not allowed to take another paying job if you have a contract with one of the Big 4 schools.
But how about if you are, for example, a musician, and form a band....do the Big 4 schools really care about this?
Would I get into trouble if I formed a band and occasionally played gigs?
It wouldn't be another income, it would just be something I did for fun and maybe once in a while made a little bit of money from.
Does anyone here have any experience with this? Any comments would be appreciated
best wishes |

Some people still tale a second job anyway. A friend of mine is working for Nova and worked nights at a sports bar. ECC actually mentioned moonlighting at their hiring session too. I don't know if that was because they only have a 29.5 hour work week or if it's just expected / accepted even though it may be illegal. (Or maybe it isn't if you don't work full-time?). That's the two cents I can offer you. Good luck with starting a band! (c: |

it's perfectly acceptable to work more jobs at ECC.
as for the other places, what they don't know won't hurt them. |

Nova doesn't care either. Apparently they used to, but now don't even care if you work your own private lessons on the side. The only thing they tell you is that you can't use Nova materials to teach privates with. Not that anyone would want to....
Anyway, plenty of people I know at Nova teach privates, bartend, etc. Being in a band and earning some extra cash certainly wouldn't be a problem. All they care about is that you show up and work the lessons that you are scheduled to work. |

I know lot of Nova teachers also who teach privates. In fact, we were given permission as long as we did not use Nova materials (as stated above) and we did not raid the Nova student pool for our students. I know guys at ECC who did also with the knowledge of the schools. However, I know that AEON specifically tells you that no outside work is permitted. Working jobs other than teaching English is not allowed because of visa restrictions. So if you want to work as a bartender or what ever, you do so at your own risk. The Japanese government can revoke your visa if you are caught. You could either face some jail time or they will send you home. |
