I stand corrected on Vung Tau's economy, toiyeuthitmeo - many thanks for clarifying that for us!
ALWAYS wanted to check Vung Tau out for a visit, but I usually stay in Ho Chi Minh City for a couple of days at most....not really enough time for a side trip! |
Tourism is a big draw still, for the weekenders from Saigon and for some reason it's a regular stop on the Korean overland bus tour. In the last several months they've shut down the beach to vendors after night hours and restricted bathing in the sea to the hours of 7am-5pm. It has really cleaned up "Back Beach" to be fair, but I miss my late night grilled octopus!
The hydrofoil takes 75-90 min from Saigon and leaves nearly every hour during daylight. Worth a look if you want to get out of the city for a bit. |
