|
|
Hi. I'm in Hanoi and about to get a motorbike license. One of the reasons I'm getting a motorbike license is to get health insurance that covers accidents on the road. Does anyone know of any good health insurance that provides good hospitals and covers one in case of a motorbike accident, especially in Hanoi? I'd rather not go through my current employer for coverage. I'm an ESL teacher from the USA.
Thanks for your consideration. |

I was under the impression that the 85,000VND annual insurance policy that is MANDATORY for motorbikes was the primary payor for hospital expenses if you wrecked yourself in an accident...... allegedly up to 30 Million VND (NOT including food and bribes to the doctor and nursing staff)
...however, as a Viet Kieu friend of mine told me: "They're a lot like American health insurance polices - don't believe anything that you read and don't expect to collect on it whilst you're hanging out in the hospital" |

I don't think the OP is talking about motorbike insurance.
Try Aegon in Hanoi on an accident only insurance, I don't have the details but they should be able to sort you out.
Good luck! |

Liberty Insurance is US-based and quite reliable. Many ESL schools use them for teacher benefits. |

I was with Liberty and I wasn't overly impressed with their service (e-mails went unanswered etc.). But that was just my experience and I have no idea what they are like when it comes to making a claim. These guys might be an option:

It's travel insurance (which can come in handy), but there is fairly extensive coverage when it comes to health problems and they are fairly competitively priced. Good luck Newcomber! |

I ended up just getting inpatient with Liberty. It's not cheap, but not a terribly high price either. Thanks again to this forum for their advice and input.

I went through the health insurance thing a year ago, and Liberty is basically the best bang-for-buck option. It has good coverage with a decent price, plus it covers you throughout the region. A lot of others are cheaper but with far more limits on coverage, like HSBC's plan. |

Like I said, I wasn't impressed with Liberty's service and, although the value-for-money aspect of their policies seems pretty reasonable, I'm glad I left them. The way I look at it, if they can't be bothered to respond to customers when they just have simple questions, what are they going to be like when it comes time to make a claim? . |

Dunno, haven't had to make a claim yet. Another teacher did after a bike accident and got paid out in full. That's all I know, and it's not much even by anecdotal standards. I had to get a new card, went in one day, and got a new one made in 5min. That too. |
