Dear trap,
"Perhaps the definition is referring to you...?!"
In order for that to be the case, I'd need to have a sex-change operation .
Of course, were I to do so, I probably would be a bit of a slat.
Regards,

Cleo seems to be avoiding Dave's for now.
I have heard tales of some women who did have male visitors of varying nationalities and ended up losing their jobs over it. To be honest, having local male visits can cause an expat female problems anywhere in the Gulf. When I had private students, I never allowed them to come to my flat, but met them at their homes or their place of employment.
But our OP merely said "Saudis" and didn't specify that they were male. Is there any compound that doesn't ever allow the local population to enter? That would seem a bizarre idea.

This thread has taken an interesting turn...the OP doesn't offer much information which leads to alot of speculation as to the woman's motives.
However, I think if the woman was intending to socialize with only other females then needing to be on a western compound would not be so necessary. Nevertheless most, if not all compounds are family oriented, but also accommodating single women. On most, if not all compounds one must have an invitation to get in. I think most Saudis manage to get into compounds if they know the person...however, a single woman will most likely be scrutinized much more closely than a 'family' as to the coming and going of visitors.
My thought is that if the woman is single and looking for more freedom by seeking a western compound in the hopes of being able to entertain the opposite sex, she will be setting herself up for a whole lot of troubles (especially if she intends to entertain male Saudis).
Also I would think her employer would have alot of say/ control as to where she would be allowed to live anyways. |

Isn't it interesting that the female friend isn't posting to the topic and that teachr11 dropped out of the discusion? Doesn't the employer usually provide the compound for single females? And the employer would also provide the rules. |

Everyone seems to be assuming that the woman in question wants to be able to entertain male Saudis, but I don't actually see any evidence of this.
There are other possible scenarios.
For example, perhaps she's an evangelical Christian and hopes to spread the word to some Saudi women, whom she will entertain in her home for the purpose.
(I reckon this would be little - if at all- more acceptable than entertaining men for profit, though!).
Or perhaps she wants to open a small day-care centre for Saudi children in her spare time.
I'd be curious to know more from the OP on this
teachr11, are you still with us? |
Trying to turn the faithful from the only true path, in the holy kingdom?? I think even a 'sharmuta' would get more sympathy! |

Hey everyone, I'm still here! Geez, ya go camping for a week and wow - the forum discussion goes in the strangest direction.
Most employers do not provide compounds for lowly English teachers - those are reserved for engineers, oil folk, and financial people. Regardless, my friend appreciates your advice and will do what she sees fit. |

The last time I was in Saudi as a single female, my employer was very concerned about providing a secured, locked down environment for the female staff. It would have been an embarrassment if any female employee got herself into trouble by walking out alone and attracting attention from the opposite sex, because, of course, the employer is responsible for the behavior of his female employees. I suppose that Saudis do not expect that a woman could be responsible for her own self.
Perhaps your friend has a contract with an employer who does not feel the need to protect her from all those wild Saudi characters, but employers who sponsor single female usually provide housing and a transportation allowance, I do believe. |
